Many water points and bodies of water participate in the mosaic of the Gers landscapes. From the discreet river to the hill lake, via the ponds, these places of freshness and life seduce the seasoned fishermen and are also an ideal setting for a party family fishing.
With its 25 km of rivers classified in 1st category and 2400 km in 2nd category, the Gers has a beautiful fishing area.

What fish can you catch?
A wide variety of fish inhabit the lakes and rivers: Salmonids (river trout, rainbow trout), cyprinids (bleak, bream, carp, roach, gudgeon, and other tench), predators (black bass, pike perch, pike) and large migratory (eel, lamprey).
We saw some good catches… For example a pike weighing 17.5 kg in the Arros, a pike perch of 10 kg in the lake of Mielan or a carp of 23.8 kg in the lake of Uby in the Armagnac.

- A Auch, banks of the Gers (2nd category course): calm water course with many accesses. Ideal for coarse fishing or for training in competitions.
- Still in Auch, aerodrome lake (2nd category course): Ideal for introducing young people to fishing
- A Other (2nd category course): for family fishing, easy to access and shaded. Great for beginners
- A Preignan (2nd category course): easy at the bottom of the waterfall but more sporty upstream.
- A Castelnau-Barbarens (2nd category course): in the Arrats river for experienced fishermen.
The Gers also counts 5 no kill routes: the fisherman returns the fish he has caught to the water in the best possible conditions. Signs indicate the limits of these routes on the Petite Baïse, and around the Gauge or Uby lakes for example.
I catch my first fish
Note in your holiday diary: This summer, the departmental federation offers initiation to fishing in the Gers! The rest of the year, fishing-nature courses are organized on demand. These activities for the youngest (from 8/10 years old) include the loan of equipment, the fishing license as well as transport. You learn to fish with a reel, with lures, in a boat and to catch your first trout !!!
