Scattered around the 4 corners of the department, isn't it perfect to organize these vacation days around them?

Fourcès, circular village

The round square (site of the castle mound where the original castle was built, destroyed in the XV century) is planted with plane trees which provide shade on holidays, concerts and flea markets. Medieval houses with oak jambs surround the central square, alongside residences from the XVII and XVIII centuries.

L'Auzoue, embraces Fourcès.

On the GR654 from Santiago de Compostela, hiking is essential.

Arboretums and covered paths give the place a bucolic air and, every last weekend in April, it is the famous Flower market !

La Romieu, collegiate church and city of cats

The village between Lectoure and Condom, was initially a salvage built around a priory (end of the XI century AD).

"Roumiou" means in Gascon "Pilgrim"and the village is a major stage at the crossroads of the ways of Saint-Jacques of Compostela coming from Puy-en-Velay and Rocamadour.

A Cardinal (in his name), when the first pope of Avignon takes his place, offers this village an emblematic monument (even UNESCO agrees), the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter completed in 1318.

To develop the local economy, the houses in the square are equipped with arcades: what charm today!

Have you heard of his famous legend of cats?

Larressingle, fortified village

Some people call it "la petite Carcassonne"; it's the smallest fortified village in France.

As you slip through its enclosure, you will discover an architectural complexe of the Middle Ages: castle, former home of the abbots and then of the bishops of Condom, Romanesque church, medieval houses, all protected by the ramparts, towers, moats and a drawbridge . When the crown of France and England quarreled over Aquitaine in the XIII , the towns grew stronger; the abbots of Condom had the fortress of Larressingle built, never attacked until 1589 century.

It is by following a guide or the "  visit card  »Distributed by the Condom Ténarèze tourist office that you will learn more about its rich history.

At the exit of the village, the Lartigue Bridge : one of 4 Gers sites classified as UNESCO World Heritage under the paths of Saint-Jacques de Compostelle.

Lavardens, former military capital

Located between Auch and Condom, whatever the axis taken to arrive, the view is breathtaking ! And for good reason, it is on a rocky outcrop that the village has developed over the years, around its impressive castle.

Once parked, stroll in peace ... Alleys and rows of charming houses, pastel colors, warm stone, contribute to a feeling of discreet, sincere and warm welcome.

The castle can be visited. Pass'en Gers conducts village tours. In August, Rétromotion brings together collectors and lovers of vintage cars.

We recommend a hiking.

THEsummer, squares, main alley and alleys come alive with the night markets ! Onlookers sit between two merchants for dinner, others prefer to dance near a musical group ...

Picturer lovers ?

For the view of Lavardens with vines in the foreground, arrive by the road to Jégun. If the beauty of the flax fields makes you vibrate, you will find a spot….
Arriving from Peyrusse-Massas or going up to the castle terrace, you will have a view of the horizons cradled by valleys with rich shades of green and a lake below.

Montreal-du-Gers, bastide

Perfectly positioned between the vines, Montréal-du-Gers is a peaceful country house.

It preserves a rich heritage: walled enclosure, arched gateway to the city, half-timbered houses, square with solid stone arches, narrow passages serving the various islets of the bastide.

The name of the city, Montreal (or “Montroyal”), recalls the royal origin of the bastide founded in 1255 by Alphonse de Poitiers. Built on a promontory, right on the rock, it fulfilled a strategic role at the time of the Hundred Years War, between the French and English domains.

{Coup de cœur} It is natural that “La Fabrique à souvenirs” opened here: the tourist office, a real place of visit with the presentation of the assets of this sector and spaces dedicated to the discovery of the vineyard. Armagnac-Gascogne.

A few kilometers from the town, don't miss the Gallo-Roman villa of Seviac. There, adjoining rooms, marble colonnades, galleries, gardens, thermal baths and mosaic floors were unearthed, today extremely well preserved. To this is added their quantity and their colors, to constitute a unique site in Europe !

Sarrant, medieval and original

Sarrant is located on the eastern border of the Gers, straight above Gimont. It's a circular village, a medieval “Castrum”.

Its colorful streets give a very special atmosphere once you get under the XNUMXth century ogival door, whose drawbridge spanned the ditches. Look up; corbels and half-timberings houses, embedded in the ramparts for some, recall the past of the small city.

Since the medieval tower, you see the village and observe its construction around the church.

It is said that the mature steeple of Sarrant, would have the power to repel thunderstorms ...

Every summer, internationally renowned illustrators meet here around master-classes, conferences and workshops for novices or experts: their HQ? The bookstore-spread! An astonishing place where accompanied by tea, a homemade toast, near an exhibition and rarely without meeting, the hours spent choosing books from a current selection are pure pleasure, apart!

A body of water and marked paths complete the excursion ...
