À Auch, during the Saturday market, the useful combines with the pleasant: a farmers' market is held on the square in front of the magnificent building that is the Sainte-Marie cathedral and Herb hall.
Winter is here, and despite the sun, temperatures remain low... Am I the only one who still thinks about good winter soups, good hot dishes? I refuse to believe it! To concoct my recipes, head to the market. Shall I bring you with me?
Local products
It's past 9 a.m. when I arrive at the Place de la Cathedral. The market is slowly waking up, people are arriving little by little... In front of certain stalls, the sounds of conversation are already starting to be heard. Armed with my list of vegetables needed for my soup, I begin to wander. Of the many stalls Asked different products parade before me: dried fruits, clothes, flowers, cheeses, fruits... Hop there, first stop to warm up over a coffee!
I then walk along the cathedral, towards Herb hall. It is here that most fresh produce are: meats, fish, cheeses… but not only that! After a quick walk around to contemplate everything (with a loooong break in front of the cakes, I admit...), I arrive in front of a vegetable stand. In front of me: leeks, spinach, squash... I set my sights on the pumpkin, potatoes, carrots and a few onions, while chatting with the friendly market gardener.
Market friendliness
Beyond all the local products that I add to my basket, it is this friendly atmosphere which makes all the difference to me. Being able to exchange with different the sellers' et local, which are always good advice, but also to find knowledge (often by chance!).
The only “problem” when shopping? Each time, I plan to buy the 4 or 5 ingredients on my list, but I always leave with more! This time, while strolling through the Dessoles Street, I stop at the butcher's Good life where I take poultry ballottines for lunch. (It was delicious…)
So I'm leaving with my little one well-stocked basket, and in my head, I already add a new note: go to the stand that sells English products. And yes, at the same time, this morning their cupcakes and scones caught my eye!
