Below the prefecture, on Place Betclar, is the old medieval herb hall. Rebuilt in the XNUMXth century, it now hosts the traditional Saturday market. In the Middle Ages, it was on this square that most of the trade took place: sale and purchase of all kinds of products, especially vegetables. At that time, the space was not partitioned and was open to the city.
Some houses, visible from the square, have elements typical of the region: the mirandes. In Auch, these open galleries, located on the top floors of houses, were used in particular to dry crops.
