The pedestrian street of Auch
Formerly called the Camin Dret (the straight path in Occitan), the rue Dessoles bears the name of Napoleon's General of the Empire. It is a busy shopping street all year round, located a stone's throw from the St. Mary's Cathedral. Until March 2016, theGrand Auch tourist office was installed at n ° 1 rue Dessoles, in a half-timbered house.
Jean Joseph Paul Augustin Dessoles (1767 - 1828)
Born in Auch and soldier of the Revolution, he was the leader of the first battalion of Gers volunteers. He distinguished himself in Novi and Hohenlinden, but also in Spain where he took Cordoba. After the fall of the Emperor, he will be a supporter of the Restoration and faithfully serve King Louis XVIII.
He will be in particular commander of the National Guard of Paris, member of the Privy Council of the King and Peer from France.
THEspelling his name is uncertain. On the birth certificate of the future general, his father signs: DESOLLE father, July 3, 1767. On the cadastre of the city of Auch, the name DESSOLES has been registered since 1816.
