EXHIBITION: ANGKOR

For its 4th collaboration with the Bruits d'Couloir association, Ciné32 takes you on a journey to Cambodia thanks to photographer Jacques Sierpinski.
Through his work on the temples of Angkor, the Toulouse artist invites us to slow down to contemplate the age-old beauty of these stone monks.

"These photographs were taken in 1993. Cambodia had finally finished with the war following the Paris agreements. The Cambodian Ministry of Tourism entrusted me with the mission of producing a series of photographs on the architectural and cultural heritage of the country. Alongside the commissioned work, confronted with the size and power of the places that I discovered, often alone apart from a few monks, adventurers or journalists, I had the feeling of finding myself in the situation of Henri Mouhot and Louis Delaporte, discoverers of the site in 1860, whose drawings nourished my imagination.
I then undertook personal work inspired by my readings and my childhood dreams, on these temples of the forest: the Jungle Book, a Pilgrim of Angkor, the Royal Way... I was all at once Mowgly, archaeologist and photographer from the early days of photography in this city which was one of the largest cities in the world. The original photographs were taken on Polaroid film transferred to Canson paper by direct contact, retouched with watercolor by Hélène Chevalier."
