In the life of Museum of the Americas - Auch, the year 2023 is marked by the welcome of visual artist Simon Augade.
Simon Augade
Born in Bagnères-de-Bigorre in 1987, Simon Augade works in all of France, and more recently at La Cohue, the Museum of Fine Arts of Brittany in Vannes and the Dauphinois Museum in Grenoble.
His latest creations, covered with wooden slabs, inspired the museum team, who saw a connection with the pre-Columbian collections, in particular the paintings of feathers, but also the patterns of the textiles.
An encounter between an artist and a museum
Not knowing the museum before being invited for this residency, Simon was struck by the beauty of the building: the traces of the former cloister of the Jacobins convent and the diversity of the collections present.
This is this happy clash of cultures, as well as the dialogue of the works with the place that gave him the inspiration for his creation.
The 2023 residency at the museum
The residency took place from April 17 to July 14, 2023. For 3 months, he performed a performance by creating an original work in the museum garden, which will be visible for several years. His workshop installed under a barn was visible every day during his residency.
Meetings were organized on the occasion of Museum Night on May 13 and the first weekend of June, on the occasion of the Rendez-Vous aux Jardins.
