ILLUSTRATED ROOM

In the town hall, the former music room, located upstairs, was transformed in 1866 into the Salle des Illustres, inaugurated in 1868: the Town of Auch thus took over the project of the prefect Féart, wishing to create a room in honor of the great Gascon characters, born in the department or having worked for him (Maréchal Lannes, Marquis Dessolles, General Spain, Salluste du Bartas, Mégret d'Etigny, Bernard de Pardailhan, Hector de Galard (jack of diamonds of our card games), Blaise de Montluc ....).

Fourteen portraits were then purchased by the city, twelve interested families provided the first paintings and eight were painted by the painter Gustave de Lassalle-Bordes. Today, the Salle des Illustres is used as a meeting room for the municipal council and as a room for official receptions.

The Salle des Illustres is open and free of charge during the opening hours of the town hall.

Throughout the year, discover the Salle des Illustres and the Italian Theater during scheduled visits with a guide (by reservation for groups with the Country of Art and History or the office of tourism). Contact the office to know the next dates.

The room and the theater are accessible to strollers and people with reduced mobility.
