Memento, a departmental contemporary art space, opens its doors to you in May to show you a free collective exhibition where works of art and in situ installations interact with the spirit of the place.
Installed in the former Carmelite convent, the artists reveal themselves to the public and an unprecedented connivance is established between the current creation and this forgotten heritage space.
The ancient Carmel of Auch is a haven of silence in the process of awakening. This building is marked, for better or for worse, by the imprint and the religious or secular activities of the women and men who have stayed there. This imposing building, today stripped down, abandoned but still "inhabited", provokes ambivalent sensations.
By reaffirming "the here and now", this ancient Carmel, closed for more than 10 years, merges the spirit of the place with the spirit of creation. These abandoned spaces are the embodiment of a forgotten reality. In contact with contemporary creation, they become a utopian parenthesis playing with a new perception of certainties. An ephemeral place where the idea of a museum meets that of an artistic laboratory. Far from the traditional "white cubes", come explore here a fusional relationship between exhibition spaces and contemporary works. A collective reverie lodges in the pores of the building and in the veins of the works for a real-time experience of the limits of perception.
Memento is a member of the air de midi network: a network of contemporary art professionals in the Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée region.
