EMBANS

Castelnau Barbarens, a hilltop town dominating the Arrats valley, is one of these medieval villages which today constitute a landscape ensemble characterized by their picturesque silhouette and their architectural quality.
The streets form concentric terraces, with covered passages: the Embans.
Over the pousterles and alleys, the village pays homage to men and
women who wrote its history: Bernard I and his wife Longuebrune d'Astarac, founders of the castle; the family of Uzès, last owner of the castle; Edouard Lartet, paleontologist born in the hamlet of St-Guiraud in 1801.
