SAINT-MICHEL CHURCH (CASTELJALOUX)

Casteljaloux with the hamlet known as “Larrère” was attached in 1824 to the town of Sainte Christie and became an annex.
The fairly simple church, chapel of the small manor dating from the 13 / 14th century, residence of Bertrand de Castelgelous, one of whose sons, Alexandre Carbon de Castelgelous was appointed captain of the company of guards of Louis XIIIth century, has a large painting representing St Michael slaying the demon, 2 large wooden statues: Ste Marie and St Joseph, 2 altars in wood and plaster and 2 funerary slabs in old Gascon.
Rectangular with a flat apse, a chapel dedicated to the Virgin and sacristy to the north with a covered porch. A wall bell tower with 2 bays and a bell.
The entirely studded front door of the church has been renovated.
After a fire, the castle was enlarged and transformed into a flour mill. On the facade some signs of medieval openings. On its right side, the old water mill on the Gers, opposite the church.
On leaving the village, you can see a beautiful dovecote (RN21).
An old windmill is located, about 500m, on the local road leading to the hamlet of Larrère.
We continue to bury in the cemetery which is located to the north and east of the church.
