Village of Sainte-Christie

village of sainte-christie

Located north of Auch, towards Agen, the village of Sainte-Christie and its castle date from the 11th century.

The castle has a brick architecture, built to serve as a hostel for pilgrims going to Santiago de Compostela. Its first construction, made with local stones, dates back to the year 1000. The first occupant was the Lord of Luppé.
In the 13th century, a fire destroyed three quarters of the castle and few walls were spared as well as a tower currently in ruins.
Local artisanal brickyards were used for its reconstruction.

The feudal dovecote is located about 200 meters away and was formerly in the form of a square tower with a pyramidal roof supported by eight porticoes. Three of these are still standing today.

Also discover during your walk the fortified gate and the Saint-Michel church of Casteljaloux, then to the north-east of the town, the Larroque castle.
