THE OBSERVATORY OF TIME

Contemporary sculpture created in 1991 by the Catalan artist Jaume Plensa.
On the upper landing of the monumental staircase, a remarkable classified site and listed in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments, the artist has reproduced in bronze letters the biblical evocation of the Flood, in memory of the floods which affected the city in 1977. The glass eye, like a symbolic lookout, scans the sky.
This surprising bed of words is completed by the second part of the work: the Abri Impossible (thus renamed by the inhabitants and over time) installed opposite on the other bank at the end of the Saint-Pierre footbridge. . This sculpture symbolizes an inaccessible refuge recalling our helplessness in the face of the irresistible rise of the water.
"AUCH" is the name given to the work by the artist, now a true international star!
