In the heart of Gascony, between Condom and Auch, the village of Jegun is a fortified village, built by Bernard IV, Count of Armagnac.
The name Jegun, which is said to be of Celtic origin, "Ju" refers to the tree and "Guen" to the wine. The wine tree and the vine appearing on the coat of arms show the importance that "red gold" may have had for the economic life of the commune.
In the center of the main street of the village, discover the many stone or half-timbered houses where Henri IV stayed in one of them.
The former Sainte-Candide collegiate church, XNUMXth - XNUMXth century, nowadays the Sainte-Candide Church, testifies to the rich history of the village.
During your visit, do not miss the Notre Dame des Roses source; so named because according to tradition, there was found an image of the Virgin under a flowering rose bush in the middle of winter. A spring gushed out at the foot of this rosebush and many patients found in this water the cure of their ailments (pink ailments such as eczema).
Also worth seeing are the St-Michel de la Tremblade Chapel, the Lézian church, the wrought iron cross, the Vassevin wash house and its botanical garden open to the public, very pleasant for picnicking (tables available).
The pretty village hall serves as a central square which holds several curiosities such as the prison beneath it, whose pillars reveal to the most curious the weights of the clock...
For visitors in search of nature, from the church, follow the markings to discover the hiking trail (7km loop).
You will find everything you need in the town of Jegun: grocery store, bakery, bar, pharmacy, restaurant...and the annual market every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 13 p.m. on the village square.
Finally, the various associations offer various events all year round where good humor and conviviality are the key words!
Gourmet and themed evenings are organized. One of the most famous events in the town? The "Wine Fair," which has brought together local producers since 1985 and attracts more and more visitors every year.
