The Gers Resistance and Deportation Museum is a modern space that allows visitors to discover the reality of the Second World War and the links between local and national history.
Designed from the archival collection of the Departmental Museum of Resistance and Deportation of Haute-Garonne, the exhibition "Forbidden Humor" presents drawings from the war, some by artists but also by unknown people who chose the pencil to express themselves, to tell stories, to record their daily lives, to resist, sometimes even to bear witness to their suffering. Funny, touching, moving, and also terrible drawings that make you smile (and why not laugh). They all speak to us about our history, and perhaps also about our time.
The exhibition helps us understand how a veritable war of images unfolded during the Second World War. Posters, leaflets, and flyers flooded in, omnipresent in the lives of the French. These images are now essential for understanding the daily lives of millions of people during these years. They also had a considerable impact on our collective memory.
