During the French Revolution and until 1822, this village went by the name of Marseillan d’Astarac. It was formerly written with only one "r": Auterive.
Pleasantly located near the meanders of the Gers, the village features a former water mill, Moulin de Dessus (private property), behind the church. There are also two windmills, also private property, and a lovely renovated sundial on the facade of the country inn.
